Macerata Feltria

The Roman city of Pitinum Pisaurense, located around the Medieval church of San Cassiano "in Pitino", on a flat area between the two streams and frequented since Neolithic times, rose around the 3rd c. BC. Little else is known about the history of this center: the archaeological sources speak of a frequentation of the area at least until the 6th century AD, when there was a depopulation of the city center, followed by a subsequent reoccupation for religious purposes in the 7th century AD. Some remains of the town are still visible in the Archaeological Area.

Porti e approdi nelle Marche antiche
