Born through the generous donation of the Pesaro noble Annibale Abbati Olivieri (1708-1789), the archaeological collection boasts around 2,600 finds and is exhibited in three halls of the 17th century Palazzo Almerici. Numerous objects of the Roman Age are preserved in the first room, such as marble portraits, inscribed glassware and part of the numismatic collection. The second hall is dedicated to the famous Necropolis of Novilara, a large burial area exploited from the 9th c. to the end of the 7th century BC, where the interred were buried with ever-richer funerary kits: arms, helmets and razors for men; whorls, bobbins and personal ornaments for women. In this room there is a selection of the kits and some of the burial stele, including the famous naumachia stele. The third hall that houses the finds of Lucus Pisaurensis concludes the archaeological exhibit: beside the memorial stones, sometimes with inscriptions dedicated to the gods, here are displayed the many votive objects that were dedicated to them.

Alla foce di fiumi e torrenti, entro piccole baie, promontori e grandi insenature, si svilupparono nell’antichità porti, porti canale, empori o semplici approdi. Questi scali furono il fulcro di una fitta rete di commerci marittimi che hanno dato vita a un intenso dialogo tra oriente e occidente, testimoniato dai ritrovamenti di reperti provenienti da tutto il bacino del Mediterraneo.
