The “I Pini” archaeological area of Sirolo, situated in the area that gives it its name, provides a visit to a sector of the Picene necropolis, with monumental tombs in a circle and inhumations in long, narrow trenches. The circular tombs are characterized by a large annular pit, about 40 meters in diameter, surrounding the funerary groups. Here is the famous "Tomb of the Queen", dating back to the end of the 6th century BC: the deceased woman was laid in the ground at the bottom of a grave along with her rich set of personal ornaments comprising over a thousand fibulas, breastplates, sandals, a calash and chariot. Located near this "princely" tomb was another grave that contained the ceramic kit related to domestic activities and the practice of the symposium: numerous ceramic vases decorated with black figures were found here. The remains of two mules were laid in a third grave. The "Tomb of the Queen", now partially displayed in the Antiquarium of Numana, with its nearly two thousand items is one of the richest in the entire Mediterranean basin.
